Create an emergency plan

Creating an emergency plan with your family can help ensure your family's safety and well-being during a crisis, unexpected situation, or natural disaster.

The American National Red Cross describes three main steps when creating an emergency plan:*

  • Meet as a family and create a plan: With your family or household members, discuss how to prepare and respond to the types of emergencies that are most likely to happen where you live, learn, work and play.
  • Assign responsibilities: Identify responsibilities for each member of your household and how you will work together as a team.
  • Practice your plan: Review and practice as many elements of your plan as possible.
